Headbands

Wider, padded headbands add width at the top (good for oval and heart shapes). Thinner, delicate bands create the illusion of length (good for round faces). Knotted or textured styles suit all shapes. The most important factor is comfort, a headband that digs in will never feel right.

They can look even more striking with short hair, as the band becomes a prominent feature rather than blending into longer locks. Slim bands and padded styles both work with pixie cuts and bobs. Push slightly back from the hairline for a relaxed look, or forward for a bolder statement.

Look for headbands with teeth or grippy inner surfaces. Bobby pins behind the ears help. A bit of dry shampoo or texturising spray on clean hair creates grip. Velvet and fabric-covered bands stay in place better than smooth plastic or metal.
